KARACHI: Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited NIPA Chowrangi on 24 February to review progress on the K-IV Augmentation project and the Bus Rapid Transit Red Line, expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work on the crucial water supply scheme. Standing amid traffic congestion and construction debris, he said the delays were unacceptable given Karachi’s worsening water crisis and the daily difficulties faced by commuters.
The inspection focused on a 2.7-kilometre stretch of the K-IV Augmentation project, a key part of the long-delayed plan to address the city’s chronic water shortages. Officials briefed the chief minister on timelines and bottlenecks, but he directed the police and district administration to provide full support to ensure the project moves ahead without further delay.
Acknowledging public frustration over road closures and diversions at one of Karachi’s busiest intersections, Shah ordered immediate steps to improve traffic flow. Authorities said mixed traffic lanes linked to the BRT Red Line corridor are now expected to be completed by May 2026, a deadline the chief minister said must be met.
Accompanied by local government minister Nasir Hussain Shah, irrigation minister Jam Khan Shoro and Karachi mayor Murtaza Wahab, the chief minister reviewed on-ground arrangements and sought firm assurances from engineers and contractors that both projects would be completed on schedule, underlining that the K-IV Augmentation project remained vital for the city’s future water security.
