KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has underscored the transformative impact of Thar coal power plants in generating some of the cheapest electricity in Pakistan. Speaking to the media in Lahore, CM Murad highlighted the Sindh government’s long-standing advocacy for investment in renewable energy sources like wind and solar, a vision that has now gained nationwide traction.
CM Murad proudly noted that Thar coal power plants are currently producing over 3,000 megawatts of electricity, which is fed into the national grid and subsequently supplied to regions such as Faisalabad. Despite this significant contribution, he pointed out that the electricity generated from Thar coal is not being directly supplied to Sindh.
The chief minister emphasized that the utilization of Thar coal could revolutionize the energy landscape in Pakistan, not only by providing cheaper electricity but also by spurring job creation and boosting exports through industrial growth powered by this resource. He stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive restructuring of the power sector to fully harness the potential of Thar coal, ensuring that its benefits are maximized for the entire nation. CM Murad’s remarks reflect a broader call for sustainable energy solutions and underscore Sindh’s pivotal role in driving Pakistan’s energy future.
