KARACHI: Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, held a series of meetings on 1 January 2026 following the assumption of charge by the new Inspector General of Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odho.
Asif Shah congratulated Odho on his appointment and assured him of full support from the provincial government in policing and administrative matters. Discussions focused on improving training, facilities, and welfare for police personnel across Sindh.
The Chief Secretary highlighted the essential role of the police in maintaining peace, security, and law and order, stressing the importance of continuous capacity-building and modern facilities. Odho reaffirmed his commitment to efficient, transparent, and community-friendly policing.
Later, Shah met a delegation from the Hyderabad Union of Journalists, including PFUJ Vice President and Hyderabad Press Club President Junaid Khanzada, President Hameed Sheikh, and Muhammad Hussain Khan. The discussions covered welfare initiatives, health insurance schemes for journalists, and the development of the Journalists Colony of the Hyderabad Press Club.
The delegation requested that previous rates of External Development Charges be maintained and urged that pending development schemes be included in the upcoming provincial budget for timely completion.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the role of Hyderabad journalists in highlighting civic issues and raising public awareness. He assured the delegation that development-related matters would be addressed in coordination with relevant departments and noted that several new projects for Hyderabad were under consideration or already underway.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the delegation acknowledged and appreciated the Sindh Government’s efforts to ensure the protection, welfare, and well-being of the journalist community.
