KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has raised alarms over the escalating cases of malaria and dengue in the region, calling for urgent action to combat these public health threats. During a recent briefing, he underscored the necessity for continuous insecticide spraying to curb the proliferation of these diseases, which pose significant risks to public health.
Highlighting the critical situation, Governor Tessori pointed out the alarming rise in malaria cases across Sindh, with health authorities reporting a staggering 249,151 cases recorded from January to October this year. This sharp increase in infections necessitates an immediate response from both government and health officials. In addition to vector control measures, the Governor urged for the establishment of additional wards in hospitals specifically designated for dengue and malaria patients.
This recommendation aims to ensure that healthcare facilities are adequately equipped to handle the surge in patients and provide timely medical care to those affected. Tessori also emphasized the vital importance of public awareness campaigns focused on dengue and malaria prevention. Educating the community about the symptoms, transmission, and prevention methods is essential in mitigating the impact of these diseases. He called upon health officials to ramp up their outreach efforts, ensuring that residents are informed and empowered to protect themselves against these infections.
As the region grapples with the dual challenges of malaria and dengue, Governor Tessori’s proactive approach highlights the urgent need for coordinated efforts to safeguard public health. The combination of enhanced insecticide spraying, increased hospital capacity, and public education is essential to turning the tide against these persistent health threats and protecting the well-being of Sindh’s residents.
