KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired what officials described as a significant meeting of the provincial Information Department, as the government sought to recalibrate its engagement with the media and sharpen the flow of public communication.
The meeting, held in Karachi, brought together senior figures from the department, including the secretary for information, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon; the director general, Moez Pirzada; the director of films, Hizbullah Memon; and the deputy director, Sarang Latif Chandio, alongside other officials. It unfolded against a backdrop of growing debate over press freedoms, access to official data and the pressures faced by journalists across the country.
According to participants, the discussion ranged widely but remained anchored in practical concerns. Officials examined proposals aimed at improving facilities for media professionals, including working conditions and institutional support, while also addressing complaints about delays in the provision of official information. The need for clearer channels of communication between government departments and news organizations was repeatedly underlined.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing and proposed projects within the Information Department. Particular emphasis was placed on the expansion of digital media initiatives and the use of modern platforms to disseminate government policies and public service messages. Officials discussed ways to ensure that information reached citizens promptly and transparently, a point that has often surfaced in criticism of bureaucratic opacity.
Film and documentary production featured prominently in the deliberations. The department considered measures to extend patronage to projects seen as reflecting social and cultural narratives of Sindh, while maintaining regulatory oversight.
