SUKKUR: The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has called for the formulation and implementation of regulations to ensure the effective execution of the Sindh Women Agriculture Workers Act 2019. This call was made during a meeting titled “Creating Enabling Environment for Women Agriculture Workers in Sindh,” held at the SHRC Regional Office in Sukkur.
Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, led the meeting, emphasizing the importance of creating safe and respectful workplaces for women in agriculture. Detho highlighted the need for registering an Agricultural Women Union with the Labor Department to strengthen representation and advocacy for women workers.
Detho stressed the importance of implementing the Harassment at Workplace Act, noting that robust legal frameworks are essential for protecting women’s rights and fostering inclusive work environments. He underscored the role of the 18th Amendment in devolving powers to the provinces, which has allowed Sindh to craft and enforce legislation that meets the specific needs of its workforce.
The meeting also focused on linking women agricultural workers with social safety nets, such as the Benazir Hari Card, to enhance their security and welfare. Detho highlighted the Sindh Women Agricultural Workers Act and the Home-Based Workers Act as pivotal in promoting the welfare and empowerment of women and marginalized groups.
