The delegation was led by the association’s president, Sameer Qureshi. Discussions focused on professional matters, mutual cooperation, the role of the media in crime prevention and ways to improve coordination between the police and crime reporters. The SSP for media and public relations and the director press at the Central Police Office were also present.
The association’s delegation included vice-president Ubaidullah Shah, general secretary Nadeem Ahmed, information secretary Asif Khan, finance secretary Akram Qureshi and governing body members Adnan Rajput, Aurangzeb Jabbar, Saqib Alam, Saba Urooj Khan, Azhar Zaidi, Matloob Baig and Waheed Jilani.
Members of the delegation briefed the police chief on ongoing initiatives, including training programs for reporters, welfare activities, awareness campaigns and efforts to address professional challenges faced by journalists. On the occasion, the association’s general secretary, Nadeem Ahmed, raised concern over cases registered against journalists under political pressure during the course of their duties, describing such actions as harmful to freedom of expression and journalism.
It was agreed that in the event of any complaint or issue involving journalists, the Crime Reporters Association would be taken on board and a coordinated strategy adopted through consultation to resolve matters effectively. He appreciated what he described as the positive and responsible role of crime reporters in highlighting crime, supporting law enforcement agencies and contributing to peace and order in society.
Odho said crime reporters had consistently encouraged police efforts and highlighted action taken against criminals. He said the Sindh police was moving towards modern, technology-based policing in which the role of the media was indispensable, adding that inter-agency coordination and information sharing were being strengthened to improve security.
Welcoming proposals for joint initiatives, the police chief said strong coordination between the police and crime reporters was the need of the time and that the Sindh police would continue efforts at every level to promote effective, public-friendly policing.
