KARACHI: A Faith and Future Summit organised by Al-Kawthar University was held at a hotel in Karachi, drawing scholars, policymakers and students from Pakistan and abroad.

The chief guest, Sindh education minister Syed Sardar Shah, was welcomed by the university’s vice-chancellor, Dr Athar Mehboob, and SISL president Ustad Asim Ismail. A large number of national and international academics and experts attended the gathering.
Addressing the audience, Shah described the enrolment of 1,000 students within a year as a notable achievement. He said institutions that combined ideological foundations with modern technology reflected the needs of the future, adding that the true spirit of education lay in its ethical and responsible use. Emphasising the importance of continued academic and intellectual dialogue, he announced that the Sindh government would support the university through scholarship assistance.
Dr Mehboob said the aim of the summit was to build a bridge between Islamic thought and contemporary demands. He stressed the need to address modern challenges while remaining grounded in Islamic jurisprudence, adding that the university sought to provide young people with intellectual guidance.
Ustad Asim Ismail said they envisioned a higher education system aligned with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), enabling students to respond to present-day issues through a religious lens.
Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, head of the Pakistan Hindu Council, said all religions shared common values and that their teachings promoted humanity.
Other speakers included Sheikh Kashif Naseem Dilkusha, Air Commodore (retd) Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Amjad Saqib, Dr Justice Syed Muhammad Anwar, Professor Mehmet Bulut, Dr Noman Ahsan, Dr Huzaifa Bin Ahtaram Ahmed, Dr Humayon Dar and Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi.
At the close of the event, 40 male and female students were presented with motorcycles.
