KARACHI: The Sindh government is fully aware of the challenges faced by journalists and media organizations and is taking practical steps to address them, the province’s senior minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said.
In a statement, Memon described a free, responsible and well-informed media as a cornerstone of democracy, stressing that the provincial government wanted to further strengthen its relationship with the media on the basis of trust and cooperation.
He said efforts were under way to modernize the information department to meet contemporary needs, with the aim of ensuring that official information reached the public in a transparent, credible and timely manner. According to the minister, improving access to accurate government data was essential to counter misinformation and strengthen public confidence.
The welfare of journalists, facilitation for media houses and encouragement of creative and innovative media projects were among the government’s key priorities, Memon added.
