KARACHI: Sindh’s minister for prisons and works and services Ali Hassan Zardari visited the Inspectorate General of Sindh Prisons and Correctional Service on Tuesday, where he chaired a high-level meeting on the introduction of a modern wireless communication system across the province’s jails.

Ali Hassan Zardari was received by the inspector general of prisons and welcomed with a guard of honour. Senior prison officials later joined the meeting to review plans for installing a Digital Mobile Radio (DMR Tier-II) wireless network in Sindh’s prison system.

officials said the proposed system would provide secure, fast and coordinated communication, with a particular focus on prison security, the movement of inmates and swift responses during emergencies.

Briefing the meeting, the inspector general of prisons, Fida Hussain Mastoi, said the network would link 23 operational prisons, jails under construction, regional DIG offices and a central command and control centre through a single secure platform. He said the system would strengthen the department’s ability to respond quickly to incidents such as jailbreaks, unrest, fires and other emergencies.

The meeting was attended by the deputy inspectors general of prisons for Karachi region and headquarters, officers in charge of Central Prison Karachi, District Prison Malir and the Youthful Offenders Industrial School, along with senior and technical officials.

Addressing participants, Minister Zardari said the Sindh government was committed to modernising the prison system and bringing it in line with international security standards. He directed officials to ensure the project was implemented swiftly and in full compliance with rules and procedures, saying it would help improve discipline, security and overall administrative performance in prisons.

Participants agreed that the use of modern technology would not only strengthen prison security but also enhance staff efficiency, inter-district coordination and the overall management of the prison system.
