KARACHI: Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) has warned that Sindhi separatist groups are actively trying to destabilize urban peace, describing recent incidents as dangerous and potentially explosive.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Mohajir youth at the residence of party leader Afaq Ahmed, MQM-Hcentral leader Sadiq Idris said that anti-Pakistan slogans, attacks on Mohajir youths and derogatory content circulating on social media were fueling tension in the city.
He said such behavior amounted to “inflammatory material” that could seriously damage public order if not addressed urgently. Idris urged security agencies to intervene on an emergency basis to prevent any untoward incident and protect the city from further unrest.
Referring to videos shared online that show Mohajir youths being subjected to violence, Idris said the continued free movement of those involved was deepening anger and resentment among young people. He warned that this growing sense of injustice could trigger a major flashpoint if the authorities failed to act.
“The government and security institutions must take these matters seriously instead of ignoring them,” he said. Idris also rejected the idea that the Mohajir community’s policy of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence should be seen as a weakness. He said mistaking restraint for helplessness was “a foolish assumption”, adding that the Mohajir community had never lived under coercion or accepted forced patronage.
He warned that law and order in several cities across Sindh was once again taking a worrying turn. Residents, he said, believed that certain extremist elements were deliberately working in an organized manner to create instability. As a result, fear was spreading among the public and daily life was being disrupted, he added, calling for urgent steps to restore calm and prevent further deterioration.
