LAHORE: In a pioneering move that blends sports with environmental activism, the Lahore Qalandars, a franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has officially become part of the Climate Action Plan. As the first team to take this significant step, the Qalandars have embraced their role in promoting environmental responsibility through the “Smog Ko Karo All Out” campaign.
During a ceremony where Punjab’s Senior Minister, Maryam Aurangzeb, administered the oath to the team, the Lahore Qalandars committed to incorporating sustainable practices both on and off the field. This initiative sets a new benchmark in the world of sports, emphasizing the responsibility of athletes and sports organizations in addressing climate-related issues.
The team’s pledge centers around several key environmental goals, including water conservation, efficient use of resources, and raising awareness about climate change and pollution. The players expressed their determination to collaborate in efforts to reduce litter, combat pollution, and promote a greener, more sustainable environment. Their actions reflect a growing recognition that cricket, like many other sports, has the potential to lead positive change by influencing public awareness and fostering responsible behavior.
In this new chapter of environmental activism, cricket is no longer merely a sport of competition; it has evolved into a platform for promoting the urgent need for climate action. By taking this stand, Lahore Qalandars are not just playing for victory on the field but are also fighting for the future of the planet, inspiring both fans and fellow athletes to follow their example.
