SUKKUR: To commemorate the 9/11 tragedy and its profound regional and global impacts, a one-day seminar was organized by The Institute of International Relations, Students Societies Center, Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), and Leaders Students Society of International Relations (IR) at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur. The event, empowered by RCK Bhittai and the Centre for Interfaith Harmony, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, was held on the special directives of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushik and was part of a series of seminars envisioned by Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali Chandio, Director of the Institute of International Relations.
The seminar, hosted at the Students Societies Centre, aimed to academically discuss the 9/11 tragedy and its implications on global and regional scenarios. Col. Aamir Hayat, Principal of Cadet College Khairpur, served as the keynote speaker, delivering a comprehensive address on the theme. His talk began with a historical overview of 9/11, detailing the event and the conceptual framework of polarity before and after the attacks. Col. Hayat explained how U.S. foreign policy evolved in response to 9/11, marking a significant unipolar moment in global politics.
The speaker discussed the extensive impacts of 9/11, including shifts in U.S. foreign policy towards more assertive military actions, unilateralism, and preemptive behavior. He also highlighted the rise of Islamophobia, regional instability, particularly in the Middle East, and the redefinition of sovereignty. Col. Hayat’s insights provided a nuanced understanding of the complex dynamics at play in global politics following 9/11. Sarfaraz Ali Korejo, in his welcome speech, emphasized the importance of interactive discussions on national, regional, and global issues and expressed gratitude to the university’s leadership for fostering an environment conducive to academic dialogue.
