JAMSHORO: The University of Sindh hosted a special event on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, to commemorate International Human Rights Day under the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,” highlighting that rights are fundamental to daily life.
Organized by the Bureau of STAGS in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC), the program at the Institute of Sindhology brought together students, academics, and activists.
Dr. Saima Shaikh, Chairperson of the Department of Sociology, welcomed attendees, followed by a keynote address from former Chairman of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, who stressed the importance of public awareness: “Human rights begin in the family, extend to the classroom, and must be respected in every corner of society. Awareness and action go hand in hand.”
Lawyer, writer, and human rights advocate Romasa Jami Chandio conducted a session on practical measures for safeguarding rights, emphasizing that educating youth about their rights is key to building a just and responsible society. She noted, “Rights are not privileges; they are essential for dignity, equality and freedom.”
