DERA ISMAIL KHAN:A deadly suicide attack claimed the lives of five people and injured ten others during a wedding ceremony at the residence of Aman Committee chief Noor Alam Mehsud near Qureshi Mor on Friday.
The explosion occurred while guests were attending the ceremony, with some youths performing the traditional Attan dance. The powerful blast caused one room to collapse, spreading panic and chaos. Among the martyrs were prominent Aman Committee leader Abdul Waheed (Commander Jagri) and MZI leader Abdul Majeed (Laghari Advocate).
Police confirmed the attack was likely carried out by a suicide bomber, with the bomber’s head recovered from the scene. DPO Dera Ismail Khan Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada stated that initial casualty reports were being verified, while Rescue 1122 confirmed five fatalities and ten injuries. Seven ambulances, a fire vehicle, and a disaster response unit were deployed, shifting the injured and deceased to DHQ Hospital, where emergency measures were implemented.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to determine the exact details. A large police contingent cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the perpetrators.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed deep concern, directed immediate medical care for the injured, and ordered the arrest of those responsible. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed grief, urged swift medical assistance, and sought reports from senior officials. The attack has sent shockwaves through the city, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
