SUKKUR: Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi, paid an unannounced visit to Civil Hospital Sukkur to assess the quality of medical services and address operational challenges. He was joined by Principal of GMMC Teaching Hospital Sukkur, Dr Saleh Muhammad Channa, Additional MS Dr Altaf Awan, and other senior health officials.

During the inspection, Commissioner Qureshi toured multiple departments, engaging directly with patients to understand their concerns and urging hospital management to improve service delivery. He also met with house job doctors who were protesting over delayed monthly stipends, assuring them that the matter would be resolved within a day or two.

The Commissioner reviewed the hospital’s CT Scan and MRI facilities, confirming with Dr Altaf Awan that both machines were fully operational. Dr Awan informed him that the outpatient department caters to around 3,500 patients daily, including residents from Sukkur, Shikarpur, and surrounding districts.

Dr Awan also highlighted challenges including budget constraints, shortages of technical staff, and issues with mortuary cold storage. Commissioner Qureshi pledged to escalate these concerns to higher authorities within the Sindh Health Department, emphasising the need for prompt action to ensure efficient hospital operations and improved patient care. He stressed that such inspections would continue to ensure accountability and enhance the overall standard of healthcare services in the division.
