SUKKUR: The District Council Sukkur handed over a cheque of Rs10m to the Children Hospital Sukkur for the purchase of 10 additional state-of-the-art incubators, as part of efforts to improve neonatal care in the city.
Chairman District Council Sukkur, Syed Kumail Haider Shah, visited the hospital, where he was received by the director of operations, Mansoor Ahmed Khokhar, along with other administrative officials. During a detailed tour, the chairman inspected key facilities including the NICU and PICU wards, paediatrics department, MRI unit, pharmacy, laboratory and other sections.
Kumail Haider Shah praised the hospital’s cleanliness, discipline and improved medical services, and commended doctors and paramedical staff for their dedication. He said the funding for incubators was approved in view of the growing medical needs of newborn children, a move welcomed by the hospital administration.
Speaking to the media, he said the establishment of children’s hospitals across Sindh was among the major achievements of the provincial government. He added that all medical services at the hospital were provided free of cost and that patients were coming not only from Sukkur district but also from other parts of Sindh, as well as Balochistan and Punjab.
He said the hospital currently had 50 incubators, which were insufficient to meet demand, making the purchase of 10 more essential. He added that requests would also be made to the provincial health minister, the Sindh government and other organisations for advanced facilities such as robotic surgery and dialysis for children.
The chairman said a proposal for a mother and children hospital in Sukkur would also be submitted to the Sindh government. He added that, in coordination with the divisional and district administration, efforts were underway to upgrade Civil Hospital Sukkur, including plans for a boundary wall and the establishment of a burns ward.
Responding to a question, he said his administration did not believe in political point-scoring over tragic incidents, stressing instead the need for practical steps to improve public healthcare.
