KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Karachi has arrested the suspected killers of gold medalist student Ittiqa Moin, who was murdered in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighborhood last week.

According to CIA sources, the Specialized Investigation Unit (SIU) team conducted raids in Quetta and Khuzdar, capturing the suspects involved in Ittiqa’s murder. The arrested individuals were also involved in armed vehicle and motorcycle thefts in Karachi. The CIA revealed that the two suspects fled to Balochistan after killing Ittiqa, a 27-year-old well-educated student, in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1.

According to the FIR registered on the complaint of Usman Moin, brother of the victim, two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted Ittiqa as he was returning from a bakery run. They forcibly snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone, and cash, and started beating him. This is when Ittiqa put up resistance, prompting the muggers to open fire. One bullet struck Ittiqa in the right armpit and exited from the left side.

Speaking to the media, the elder brother of the victim, Ibad Moeen, revealed that the fatal snatching happened near their house and one of the heartless muggers attempted to body-search Ittiqa after the shooting. Ittiqa, a university gold medallist and also an MBA student, was a brilliant young man with a promising future ahead. DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider stated that CCTV footage and other evidence were meticulously reviewed following the murder.

Investigations uncovered that the Khuzdari group from Balochistan was responsible for Ittiqa’s murder. Both suspects were identified and linked to numerous vehicle and motorcycle theft cases registered at various Karachi police stations. SSP SIU Adeel Chandio noted that the arrested suspects were involved in selling stolen vehicles and motorcycles in Balochistan. “Significant progress has been made in the Ittiqa murder case, with several suspects identified,” he said.

Chandio added that the SIU team is currently in Balochistan, where crucial evidence has been gathered, prompting the dispatch of teams to Quetta. “The suspects are trained criminals. We have tracked down the group and made some arrests,” he confirmed.
