WANA: A high-stakes press conference was held at the District Press Club in Wana to raise concerns over vacant positions in the Elementary and Secondary Education Department. The briefing was attended by candidates and representatives, including Nasrullah Khan, Ehtesham Wazir, Ashraf Ali, and Danyal.
Speakers voiced alarm that the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has yet to issue roll number slips for candidates from Lower South Waziristan, despite the computer-based screening test being scheduled for 18 January. The delay has left hundreds of hopefuls in uncertainty.
ETEA had initially conducted a paper-based screening test, with candidates scoring 50% or above qualifying for the next stage. In districts with high numbers of vacancies, the agency relaxed criteria, allowing those with scores between 30% and 49% to proceed. While this process has been completed in other KP districts, it remains inexplicably stalled in Lower South Waziristan.
Representatives said District Education Officers had formally requested the Director to instruct ETEA to issue the slips immediately. “The indifferent attitude of the Directorate is a clear injustice to the youth of Lower South Waziristan,” they said, warning that delays could deprive candidates of employment and harm the local education system.
Vacancies at stake include 2 out of 12 Certified Teacher posts, 12 out of 16 Drawing Master posts, 8 out of 9 Physical Education Teacher posts, all 7 Arabic Teacher posts, and 1 Theology Teacher post.
Candidates urged the DEO to clarify progress, seek written feedback from ETEA, and appealed to the Secretary of Education, the Chief Minister, and local lawmakers to intervene. “Our goal is to ensure educational seats in Lower South Waziristan are not wasted, and that recruitment remains transparent and merit-based,” they said.
