KARACHI: The 74th birthday of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, the founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran, is being observed today as Sheikh-ul-Islam Day, with commemorations taking place across more than 100 countries. From spiritual gatherings to academic discussions, the occasion is drawing thousands of followers who are paying tribute to his contributions in religious scholarship, education, politics, and social reform.
According to Rao Ishtiaq Ahmed, media coordinator for Minhaj-ul-Quran Karachi, the global celebrations will include special prayers for Dr. Qadri’s health and longevity, as well as mehfil-e-naat and other religious events. Across various countries, supporters are coming together in mosques, seminar halls, and community centres, reflecting the widespread influence of his teachings.
Minhaj-ul-Quran’s affiliated organisations are also hosting events throughout Pakistan, particularly in southern Punjab, where large congregations have been planned. In Karachi, gatherings are taking place in multiple locations, including Gulshan, where people from diverse backgrounds have joined in the celebrations. The Minhaj-ul-Quran Women’s League and Jamia Islamia Minhaj-ul-Zahra have organised a special ceremony dedicated to highlighting his role in religious education and social upliftment, with a significant number of women expected to participate.
The celebrations are not only about formal events but also about a personal sense of gratitude and admiration among his followers. Across different cities, cake-cutting ceremonies are being held in his honour, symbolising a collective acknowledgment of his decades-long work. In homes, centres, and mosques, people are reflecting on his teachings, sharing messages of appreciation, and reaffirming their commitment to the values he has promoted. As the day unfolds, the scale of the celebrations underscores the impact of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s work beyond borders, with his followers marking the occasion as more than just a birthday—rather, a reaffirmation of their spiritual and intellectual connection to his vision.
