LONDON: A secondary school in the UK has dismissed a teacher after a video of an alleged incident involving a child at a mosque went viral on social media.
The footage, shared in a Facebook community group last night, appears to show a man expressing anger towards a young boy and allegedly slapping him.
The anonymous poster claimed that the man in the video is a teacher at Upper Batley High School, an all-boys secondary school with around 800 students. The post further alleged that the teacher not only assaulted the child but also threatened him.
According to local media, the school confirmed that as soon as it became aware of the incident, it took immediate action, terminating the individual’s employment and informing the relevant authorities.
A spokesperson for the school stated: “As soon as we became aware of this incident, we acted immediately and dismissed the individual with immediate effect. We have also reported the matter to the appropriate authorities.” The spokesperson emphasized that while the incident did not occur on school premises, such behavior is “completely unacceptable and goes against our values and principles.” They reiterated that the wellbeing, safety, and quality education of students remain the school’s top priorities. Local media reports that police are investigating the incident.
