GWADAR: Thousands of Pakistani citizens have streamed back into the country from Iran over the past weeks, fleeing the escalating conflict that has gripped the Middle East.
The mass movement of people has been channeled through the key border crossings in Gwadar and Chagai districts of Balochistan province. Authorities have been working to process the steady influx of returnees seeking safety on home soil.
Providing a detailed breakdown of the returns, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, confirmed the figures in a post on the social media platform X. He stated that between 28 February and the previous night, a total of 5,615 Pakistani citizens had crossed the border.
The statement also highlighted the presence of other foreign nationals among the arrivals. Bugti noted that 431 individuals of other nationalities had entered Pakistan during the same timeframe. This group, he elaborated, included a significant number of commercial drivers, with 2,117 Iranian nationals also crossing into the country.
The provincial leader moved to assure the public that the government machinery was fully activated to handle the situation. He explained that the district administrations in Gwadar and Chagai had been providing comprehensive support to all arriving travellers. Their primary objective, he said, was to ensure that every person reached their onward destinations safely.
Bugti reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to the welfare of those arriving. He added that officials were focused on facilitating the comfort and safety of passengers at every border crossing point.
