LAKKI MARWAT: Terrorism struck once again in the Lakki Marwat district on Friday morning as unknown assailants targeted a police party, resulting in the death of one constable and the miraculous escape of his colleague. The attack occurred in the Machin Khel area, near a bus stop, as the officers were returning from their duty at a Chehlum ceremony held at a local imambargah. According to police reports, the gunmen, who were riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the police officers, who were also on a motorbike. The constable who was killed succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his partner fell off the bike but managed to escape unscathed despite the chaos.
Following the attack, local authorities have cordoned off the area and transported the body of the deceased constable to the district headquarter hospital for further proceedings. The incident has sparked heightened security measures in the district, as officials investigate the motives behind the attack and search for the perpetrators. This attack is a stark reminder of the escalating violence in the region. On August 19, just a few days prior, another police officer lost his life in a similar assault within the Bargi police jurisdiction. The brazen nature of these attacks has drawn strong condemnation from national leaders.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed his profound dismay over the recent violence. In a statement, he condemned the attack and paid tribute to Constable Nisar Khan, who was killed in the earlier incident. Minister Naqvi emphasized the government’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of law enforcement personnel who put their lives at risk in the line of duty. As the region grapples with this latest act of violence, there is an urgent call for increased vigilance and robust measures to address the growing threats posed by extremist elements targeting security forces.
