KHYBER: In a recent press conference held at the District Press Club Khyber, Shah Faisal Afridi, Chairman of the Tribal Rights Movement (TRM) and Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Chapter, condemned the resurgence of terrorism in tribal areas, stressing that such violence would not be tolerated. Afridi highlighted the increasing incidents of bomb blasts, kidnappings for ransom, and targeted killings as deplorable, urging authorities to take decisive action.
Afridi questioned the effectiveness of security measures, particularly the border fencing with Afghanistan, which had been erected at a substantial cost. He asserted that the region’s vast natural resources were the primary target for those promoting terrorism, suggesting that a climate of insecurity was being deliberately fostered to justify potential military operations in the area. “This will not be allowed at any cost,” Afridi declared, emphasizing that the military should remain neutral and refrain from political entanglements.
He urged security forces to concentrate on safeguarding external borders rather than engaging in political maneuvering. Afridi reminded attendees of the significant sacrifices made by tribesmen in the pursuit of stability and independence for the nation, underscoring their desire for peace, development, and prosperity in the regions most affected by violence.
On September 25th, Afridi announced that Jamaat-e-Islami would hold a grand tribal convention in Peshawar. The event aims to bring together tribal communities, particularly those impacted by poverty and terrorism, to discuss the ongoing wave of violence and the exploitation of natural resources in their areas. JI Central Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman is expected to address the gathering as the chief guest.
