Addressing the broader issue of increased terrorist activity, Naqvi pointed out that many of the attacks are being planned and executed from Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Tuesday, revealing that a significant number of individuals involved in recent terrorist activities in Pakistan had been previously released under a prior agreement and are currently operating from Afghanistan. Naqvi emphasized that these individuals, particularly militants associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), are orchestrating attacks from Afghan soil, contributing to the surge in terrorism across the country.
During the briefing, Naqvi clarified that there were no plans for a military operation in Balochistan, despite the increasing violence in the region. He pointed to the incident on August 26 as an example, where multiple banned organizations coordinated an attack on a Frontier Corps (FC) camp. “The attack was intense, with 14 towers of the building coming under fire simultaneously. Alhamdulillah, our forces confronted them effectively. Had they breached the compound, the consequences could have been catastrophic,” Naqvi stated.
The minister further elaborated on the counter-terrorism operations currently being conducted in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), which are based on intelligence reports. “Action is taken wherever there is credible information about the presence of terrorists,” he assured the committee. Addressing the broader issue of increased terrorist activity, Naqvi pointed out that many of the attacks are being planned and executed from Afghanistan. He expressed concern over the gathering of TTP militants in the neighboring country, noting that many of those responsible for attacks on Pakistan had been released under a previous agreement.
“Our Home Secretary has already visited Afghanistan, providing them with all the necessary evidence and urging them to take decisive action,” Naqvi said. Turning to the situation in the riverine areas, commonly known as ‘Kacha,’ Naqvi stressed the importance of proper management before any military operation is launched. He highlighted the need for coordination with provincial authorities to ensure that once these areas are cleared of militants, the situation does not deteriorate again within a few years.
“We are in discussions with the governments of Punjab and Sindh, urging them to implement measures that will prevent the recurrence of the current situation after the area is cleared,” Naqvi concluded. The briefing underscored the complexities of Pakistan’s security challenges, particularly the external threat posed by militant groups operating from Afghanistan. The Interior Minister’s comments highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Pakistani government to counter these threats through intelligence-based operations and diplomatic engagement with neighboring countries.
