HOUSTON: A significant crackdown on illegal immigrants involved in criminal activity has been launched across Texas, reflecting a broader national effort under the Trump administration to tackle illegal immigration. Teams from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have conducted raids in major cities including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso.
These operations have led to the arrest of 170 illegal immigrants, all of whom are alleged to be involved in serious crimes. The arrested individuals are now facing deportation proceedings. Sources within the government revealed that the new administration has instructed DHS to apprehend between 1,500 to 5,000 illegal immigrants on a daily basis, with the crackdown starting on Sunday night. The operation is a coordinated effort between DHS officials and local law enforcement agencies, targeting not only individuals involved in criminal activities but also those who are illegally residing in the US.
The crackdown primarily focuses on illegal immigrants from Latin American countries, with plans to extend the operation to other regions, including targeting the estimated 700,000 Indian nationals living in the US illegally. Those arrested and found to have been in the US for less than two years will face immediate deportation. However, individuals who have resided in the country for longer periods will have the right to appeal their deportation orders in court. These individuals will be detained in facilities at the Texas-Mexico border while awaiting legal proceedings.
