GILGIT/ SKARDU: Authorities have imposed a three-day curfew in Gilgit and Skardu following protests sparked by the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Pakistan Army has been deployed in both cities to maintain law and order.
The curfew, now in effect, will be partially relaxed daily from 12 noon to 4pm, allowing residents limited movement for essential needs. Outside these hours, strict restrictions remain, with police patrolling the streets and enforcing the lockdown.
Mobile network services have been suspended across Gilgit-Baltistan to prevent the spread of unrest. In Gilgit, all commercial centres and government offices remain closed, and traffic has come to a standstill.
Officials said the measures aim to restore calm and prevent further escalation, as security forces continue to monitor the situation closely over the three-day period.
