KARACHI: Authorities in Sindh moved swiftly after a large-scale wheat theft came to light, with officials confirming the involvement of three individuals in the misappropriation of 65,000 wheat bags from the Bhulhari warehouse.
Zeeshan Memon, the Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Department, said a food inspector had been arrested in connection with the case and was presented before a special court. The court remanded him to Anti-Corruption police custody for five days, following his apprehension late on Monday night in Naushero Feroze.
Mr Memon added that two other suspects named in the investigation remained at large. Authorities had formally requested the Sindh government to issue orders for their immediate arrest. The probe was triggered after the Deputy Director of Food raised concerns with the Food Secretary about the missing wheat, prompting an inquiry that uncovered the alleged embezzlement.
Officials indicated that the investigation was ongoing, with the aim of recovering the stolen supplies and bringing all those responsible to justice. The case has cast a spotlight on the vulnerabilities in the province’s food distribution system, raising questions about oversight and accountability at government warehouses.
