TIRAH VALLEY: The rescue operation in Tirah Valley has successfully concluded, and the registration and relocation process for affected families has resumed after a four-day pause.

During the operation, 2,400 individuals, including those in 480 vehicles, were rescued. Over 200 injured residents trapped in snow were provided medical assistance. Three base camps were established at Paindi Chena, Mehrban Killi, and Odo Toi to facilitate relief efforts for affected families.

According to Maqsood Alam, spokesperson for District Khyber Rescue 1122, local residents began relocating from Tirah Valley on 10 January. However, heavy snowfall on 22 January stranded hundreds of families along the route, leaving children, women, and other residents trapped in trucks.

The rescue operation, ordered by authorities, commenced on 22 January and involved teams from District Khyber as well as Peshawar, Mardan, Sawabi, and Nowshera. The teams cleared snow from the main road and worked to evacuate those stranded. After four days of continuous effort, the main road from Bara to Tirah was fully reopened for traffic today.

The operation deployed 170 personnel, 27 vehicles, 21 ambulances, four excavators, six tractors, and additional machinery, alongside the staff and equipment from the C&W Highways Department.

With the operation complete, registration of displaced residents in Tirah has resumed at all four centers. According to PDMA records, nearly 10,000 families had already been registered prior to the disruption, most of whom have completed relocation. The total population of the area is approximately 130,000.
