WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump said that under his orders the United States Central Command carried out one of the most devastating bombing operations in Middle East history, targeting military sites on Kharg Island in Iran.
In a statement, Trump claimed that all military objectives on the island had been destroyed. He added that oil installations on Kharg Island were not targeted during the strikes.
The U.S. president warned that if Iran attempts to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Washington could also target Iran’s oil facilities.
Trump said he had rebuilt the United States Armed Forces into the most powerful and effective military force in the world during his first term and again now. He claimed Iran currently lacks the capability to defend against potential U.S. strikes.
He reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons or threaten the Middle East or the wider world.
Trump also warned Iranian military leaders and government officials that surrendering could help save their country. He added that the United States Navy would soon begin providing security to commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
