ANKARA: An official ceremony was held at the Pakistani embassy in Ankara to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming Turkey’s support for the Kashmiri people’s inalienable right to self-determination and Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with their struggle.

The event was attended by Ali Shaheen, chairman of the Pakistan-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group and member of parliament, Turkish parliamentarians Burhan Kaya Turk and Mustafa Kaya, SESRIC Director-General Zehra Zumrut, Ankara’s deputy governor Ismail Gul Tekin, former diplomats, strategic and military experts, as well as representatives from media, think tanks, educational institutions, and civil society.

Speaking at the event, Ali Shaheen expressed deep sorrow over the recent deaths of Pakistani security personnel in  attacks and reaffirmed Turkey’s full support for Pakistan in the fight against terrorism. He described the Kashmir issue as a fundamental question of human rights, justice, and global conscience, noting that a fair and peaceful resolution was essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

Ali Shaheen emphasized that Turkey would continue its principled and moral support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. Turkish parliamentarian Burhan Kaya Turk highlighted that the United Nations had promised Kashmiris the right to self-determination, a pledge also acknowledged by Indian leadership, yet seven decades later it remains unfulfilled.

Participants expressed concern over ongoing and serious human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, urging the international community to play an effective role in achieving a just resolution to the long-standing dispute.
