KARACHI: Police in Korangi arrested two men allegedly involved in circulating counterfeit currency in the city’s East Zone, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the SSP Korangi, officers from Korangi police station carried out an operation and detained the suspects, who were said to have been passing fake notes in the market during the Eid period.
The suspects were identified as Muhammad Arbaz, son of Manzoor Ali, and Muhammad Aqib, son of Muhammad Javed. Police said they recovered 26 counterfeit notes of Rs5,000 each, with a total face value of Rs130,000, along with two mobile phones.
A case has been registered against the suspects under Section 489-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to possession and circulation of forged currency notes.
Police said the suspects’ previous criminal record was being verified and that they had been handed over to the investigation wing for further inquiry.
