ISLAMABAD: Two vessels of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) have become stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to urgently contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Maritime Minister Junaid Chaudhry said the Foreign Ministry has been requested to seek a safe passage for the Pakistani ships from Iranian authorities. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi added that Pakistan’s defense and military officials are in contact with their Iranian counterparts, though final confirmation regarding possible coordination is not yet available.
He emphasised that Pakistan is concerned about the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and seeks a peaceful resolution. During a weekly press briefing, Andarabi condemned the attacks on Iran and urged all parties to exercise restraint. He also noted that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had discussed regional tensions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the role of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Pakistan expressed solidarity with its Gulf neighbours while advocating for calm and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
