ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unequivocally reiterated Pakistan’s enduring support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as inhumane and unjust. His comments came during a meeting with outgoing Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabei at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Sharif voiced his grave concern over the ongoing conflict, highlighting the severe toll on civilians since October 7, 2023. “Israel’s barbarism has resulted in the heart-wrenching deaths of over 40,000 innocent Palestinians, including women and children, with more than 90,000 injured,” Sharif remarked, underscoring the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Gaza Strip.
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue, advocating for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders with Al Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of the proposed independent Palestinian state. “Establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital is the sustainable solution,” he asserted, aligning with United Nations resolutions and reaffirming Pakistan’s stance on the matter.
Ambassador Rabei expressed profound gratitude for Pakistan’s steadfast support throughout his five-year tenure. He commended Pakistan’s historical and consistent position on the Palestinian cause and its efforts to advance peace and stability in the region. The outgoing ambassador also thanked the Government of Pakistan for its humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and for extending scholarships to Palestinian medical students, which have been instrumental in furthering their education.
