ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has made a significant statement regarding the charge sheet filed against Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed, asserting that it is not only directed at the former military officer but also implicates the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Asif remarked that it is unreasonable to suggest that Faiz Hameed acted alone in the controversial events under investigation.
The Federal Minister hinted that the charge sheet, which is based on substantial evidence, would ultimately expose the true mastermind behind the alleged conspiracy, a role he believes belongs to the PTI founder. He suggested that the PTI leader, who he claimed was deeply involved in the events surrounding May 9, is well aware of the evidence that Faiz Hameed could present. The Defence Minister hinted that the PTI founder is attempting to undermine the evidence to shield himself from accountability.
The charge sheet, according to Asif, is not just a legal formality but a serious step towards bringing clarity to the events that have raised questions about the political and military entanglements in the country. His comments also reflect a broader narrative in which he suggests that the political ambitions of the PTI founder and the military aspirations of Faiz Hameed were intertwined during the May 9 incidents.
Khawaja Asif accused the PTI founder of using the situation to further his own quest for power, while Hameed sought to use his position to ascend to the role of Army Chief. His remarks fuel the ongoing political drama, where the military’s role in national affairs and the alleged involvement of political figures in military affairs continue to dominate the public discourse.
