BAGHDAD: The United States Department of Defense has released the identities of the six US Air Force personnel killed in a KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft crash in western Iraq on Thursday. The incident marks the latest loss of life in ongoing operations against Iran, bringing the total number of American military fatalities in the conflict to 13.
Among the deceased was 33-year-old Major John Alex, a captain and two technical staff members. Major Alex had served for eight years and was responsible for training over 30 aircrew members and overseeing their flight proficiency.
The KC-135 aircraft involved in the crash was used to refuel other combat planes mid-air and also served in transporting cargo and evacuating wounded personnel. US military officials are investigating the cause of the accident while continuing operations in the region.
