KARACHI: The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has opened applications for the 2027 Fulbright Student Program, one of the country’s most prestigious merit-based scholarships.

Funded by the U.S. government in partnership with Pakistan, the program offers graduate study opportunities at leading U.S. universities. Scholarships cover tuition, living expenses, insurance, and air travel. Candidates are assessed not only on academic achievement but also on leadership potential and commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development.

Students from all fields are encouraged to apply, with particular focus on sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, trade, economics, and natural resource management. While clinical medicine is excluded, non-clinical public health applications are welcomed. Applications are open until 1 April 2026 via www.usefp.org.

U.S. Embassy Islamabad Director of Public Engagement, Heidi Smith, highlighted the program’s impact. She said Fulbright “invests in Pakistan’s next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers” while fostering cultural exchanges that strengthen ties between the two nations.

Since 2005, more than 3,000 Pakistani students have benefited from the scholarship. Many have returned to Pakistan to contribute to civic service, trade, and economic growth, while continuing collaborations with U.S. institutions.

USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran urged students across the country to apply. He said the program has “empowered thousands to study at U.S. institutions known for academic excellence and innovative research, fostering partnerships that address global challenges and promote prosperity for both nations.”

Established in 1950, USEFP has facilitated educational exchanges for over 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans, promoting mutual understanding and collaboration between the two countries. Further details are available at www.usefp.org.
