TEHRAN: The United States has reportedly placed a $10 million bounty for information on Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, according to Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council.
Speaking in a statement on Thursday, Larijani said that Washington has also announced rewards exceeding $10 million for information on ten senior figures within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including key security and intelligence officials. He described the move as a “hostile act” aimed at destabilising Iran and undermining its national security.
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries, following a series of military confrontations and sanctions. Larijani warned that such actions would further strain U.S.-Iran relations and called on the international community to “recognise the aggressive nature of these policies.”
Analysts say the reward represents a significant escalation in U.S. measures against Tehran, highlighting the strategic importance the United States places on disrupting Iran’s military and intelligence leadership. The IRGC, which Larijani described as central to Iran’s national defence and regional influence, has previously been subject to U.S. sanctions and designations as a terrorist organisation.
The Iranian leadership has condemned the announcement, stating that it would not deter the country from its domestic and foreign policy objectives. Observers warn that this development could further inflame tensions in the already volatile Middle East.
