COLOMBO: Pakistan’s T20 captain Salman Ali Agha has described spinner Usman Tariq as the team’s “trump card” ahead of the crucial World Cup clash against India, saying the squad has a detailed plan for the entire Indian batting line-up.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, Salman Ali Agha said all players were important, but Usman Tariq’s skills gave Pakistan a strategic edge. “Usman Tariq has cleared scrutiny over his bowling action twice already, yet discussions continue,” he said. “None of this affects him, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. He remains our trump card.”
The captain emphasized that the team was ready for a high-level match, familiar with local conditions and the pitch. He added that rain might affect the number of overs, but contingency plans were in place. “All 15 players are important for me,” he said. “We will select our playing XI according to conditions. Babar Azam is scoring runs and we expect him to continue doing so.”
Addressing Pakistan’s historical record against India in the World Cup, Salman Ali Agha said: “We have learned from history and our aim is to perform well tomorrow. We have a plan for India’s entire playing XI.” On India’s aggressive batter Abhishek Sharma, he expressed hope for a strong recovery so the player could be available.
He added that captaincy carries additional responsibility and pressure. “When you represent your country, all eyes are on you. We have to play good cricket on the field and execute our plan,” he concluded.
