KHAIRPUR: In a chilling reminder of the persistence of “Karo Kari,” an outdated practice linked to honour killings, a woman and her alleged partner were shot dead in Khairpur district.
Allah Waraie and Ghulam Hussain Teghani were found fatally wounded in Ketty Zaman, near Pir Jo Goth, authorities said. The suspects fled the scene immediately, leaving the community in shock. Police arrived shortly after the incident and transferred the bodies to a nearby hospital for examination.
Early reports suggest that the killing of Ghulam Hussain Teghani occurred within the jurisdiction of Abdul Rehman Unnar, with local sources claiming the attack was linked to allegations of an illicit relationship with Allah Waraie. Investigators have begun questioning witnesses and gathering evidence to establish the full circumstances of the murders.
Residents expressed fear and grief over the incident, describing it as a stark example of how deeply entrenched practices of violence against women remain in some rural areas. Authorities have vowed to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The case has reignited debates over the need for stricter enforcement of laws against honor killings and the protection of vulnerable individuals in communities where such customs persist.
