LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed on Wednesday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) remained committed to its founding principles and steadfast in upholding the legacy of its historic leadership.
Speaking at a meeting with the party’s local and provincial leadership at Bilawal House in Lahore, Zardari underlined the centrality of political dialogue and democratic engagement in addressing the country’s challenges. He urged party workers and leaders to view alliances and conversations with other political forces not as strategic maneuvers alone, but as essential tools to foster justice, national harmony, and sustainable development.
“Democracy is not merely a system of governance,” Zardari said, “it is the most effective instrument to ensure fairness and stability in the country.” Turning to the wider context, he acknowledged the economic pressures and political difficulties confronting Pakistan, noting that navigating these challenges would require patience, perseverance, and consistent effort from both the party’s leadership and its grassroots workers.
The President encouraged party members to remain resilient, emphasizing that collective commitment and determination would be crucial to overcoming the country’s current hurdles. He also addressed matters of national security, asserting that the PPP stood firmly alongside the armed forces in countering the threats posed by externally sponsored terrorism.
Zardari described such challenges as “nefarious designs” aimed at undermining Pakistan’s stability, and stressed that political unity and public cooperation were indispensable in safeguarding the nation.
