RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s top military leadership reaffirmed its commitment to national security and vowed not to tolerate the use of Afghan territory for attacks against its citizens. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, delivered the message during an interaction with leading Ulema of Fiqa-e-Jafria at Rawalpindi.
The meeting, which focused on national security and the role of religious scholars in promoting societal harmony, saw the Field Marshal underline Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate terrorist networks and their infrastructure, regardless of location. He stressed that operations against such elements would be precise and intelligence-driven.
Field Marshal Munir also warned the Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan soil for attacks targeting Pakistan. He highlighted the pivotal role of Ulema in fostering unity, tolerance, and cohesion within the country. He urged religious leaders to counter misinformation, sectarian narratives, and attempts at externally sponsored destabilization.
The Chief of Army Staff also drew attention to Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. He made it clear that violence in Pakistan, even if inspired by incidents abroad, would not be tolerated. The participating Ulema expressed their desire for peace and stability.
They condemned violence in the name of religion in the strongest terms and pledged full support to law enforcement agencies to maintain order across the country. They also paid tribute to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives defending Pakistan and lauded the Armed Forces for curbing regional tensions.
Leaders of the religious community delivered firm messages in support of national integrity. Maulana Zahid Abbas Kazmi, Chairman of Wahdat Ulema-e-Islam, assured that the community would stand alongside the Pakistan Army on every front. “The war against terrorism is not just the Army’s fight; it belongs to the entire nation,” he said, condemning attacks on military installations in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Other religious leaders echoed these sentiments. Allama Shabbir Hassan Maysami and Maulana Altaf Hussain emphasized loyalty to the country and condemned external aggression. Allama Arif Wahidi highlighted Pakistan’s military successes against India and reiterated the nation’s solidarity against Afghanistan’s “unprovoked” actions.
