The second phase of the campaign follows the successful completion of the first phase, which saw a remarkable 95 percent of targeted children vaccinated

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, officially inaugurated the second phase of the Fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine (fIPV) campaign today at NJV School, Nanakwara, in District South Karachi. This critical public health initiative is part of ongoing efforts to eradicate polio, a crippling disease that continues to threaten children in Pakistan.

During the inauguration, Mayor Wahab made a heartfelt appeal to parents, urging them to ensure that their children receive the necessary vaccinations. He emphasized the importance of vaccinating children between the ages of zero to 59 months for OPV and 4 to 59 months for the fIPV dose. “Vaccination is the most effective tool we have to protect our children from the devastating effects of polio. I implore all parents to take advantage of this campaign and safeguard their children’s future,” said Mayor Wahab.

The second phase of the campaign follows the successful completion of the first phase, which saw a remarkable 95 percent of targeted children vaccinated. This achievement was highlighted by Irshad Ali Sodhar, the Emergency Operations Center Coordinator, who noted that the high vaccination rate is a testament to the dedication and hard work of healthcare workers and the cooperation of the public.

The polio vaccination campaign is a crucial component of Pakistan’s broader strategy to eliminate the disease. With each phase, the government and health officials are moving closer to their goal of making Pakistan polio-free. The ongoing efforts are particularly important given the global push to eradicate polio, with Pakistan being one of the last countries where the disease is still endemic.

Mayor Wahab’s involvement in the campaign underscores the commitment of Karachi’s leadership to public health and the well-being of its youngest citizens. The second phase of the IPV and fIPV campaign is expected to build on the success of the first, ensuring that an even greater percentage of children are vaccinated and protected against polio.
