DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Students at Government Degree College Paharpur have launched a strong protest against additional examination fees imposed by Gomal University, announcing a complete boycott of classes until their demands are met.
Hundreds of students from various departments took part in the demonstration, describing the university’s decision as unjust and oppressive. They argued that having already paid admission and examination fees, the demand for extra charges under the pretext of examination papers is unreasonable and burdensome, particularly for families from poor and middle-class backgrounds.
Protesters held placards with slogans including “Education is not a luxury, it is our right” and “We are not asking for charity, we are demanding our right,” warning that silence today could cost them their future academic prospects.
The students have called on the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and relevant education authorities to intervene and ensure the university rescinds the additional fees. The college administration acknowledged the legitimacy of the students’ concerns and confirmed that the matter is being escalated to Gomal University and higher authorities to seek a resolution.
