KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Canada Chapter organised a solemn ceremony to mark the anniversary of the late former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the first female leader in the Muslim world. Members of the Pakistani community from across Canada attended in large numbers to pay tribute to the iconic democratic leader.
Addressing the event, PPP Canada President Javed Gujjar and senior party leader Fareed Khan Abro highlighted Bhutto’s historic achievements, saying that honouring her remarkable personality was akin to “showing a lamp to the sun.” They noted that Pakistan would always remember her sacrifices for democracy, the supremacy of the constitution, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
The speakers said Bhutto’s courage, determination, and selflessness remained a guiding example for party workers and citizens alike. “No matter how adverse the circumstances, her vision never wavered—even at the cost of her own life,” they added. They emphasised that her leadership demonstrated that true leadership demanded sacrifice, not convenience.
The PPP leaders praised Bhutto as a genuine public leader who led from the front, preferring engagement in the field over closed-door politics. They said she never feared for her life and stood by the people and the party during every challenge. Her assassination continued to sadden hearts, but her vision remained alive.
Speakers further noted that her vision guided the party today under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, with members and citizens placing their hopes in him to realise the dream for which Bhutto had given her life.
The ceremony was attended by senior PPP members including Mir Umar Abro, Mansoor Mirza (relative of the late Najeeb Ahmed), former PPP Canada President Ibrahim Danial, General Secretary Irfan Baba, Toronto General Secretary Haider Ali, Akhtar Saeed, Pervez Surya, Syed Moiz, Mehboob Ali Sheikh, Zeeshan Sheikh, Muhammad Muzammil, Saad Ali Khan, and other officials and workers, who paid tribute to Bhutto’s struggle, sacrifices, and services to democracy.
