DADU: The Awami Tehreek staged a protest demonstration in Faridabad, Dadu, on Saturday against rising lawlessness and insecurity in Sindh, with a large number of local residents, traders and journalists taking part.

Protesters carried placards and raised slogans calling for the restoration of peace and accountability, warning that the worsening law and order situation had made daily life unsafe for ordinary citizens.

Addressing the gathering, Awami Tehreek’s central general secretary, Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar, said that under the constitution the protection of citizens’ lives and property was the responsibility of the state. He said the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government must either ensure public safety or resign.

He said criminals were operating openly in Faridabad and Mehar, carrying out robberies in broad daylight, while law enforcement agencies had failed to take effective action. Mahesar criticised what he described as the silence of elected representatives in the face of the deteriorating security situation.

He demanded the immediate restoration of peace in Faridabad, recovery of stolen property, removal of incompetent police officials and strict action against those involved in criminal activities as well as those facilitating them.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Najib-ur-Rehman Mahesar, president of Awami Tehreek District Dadu, demanded the immediate recovery of looted motorcycles and other belongings taken from citizens. He called for concrete and visible action against criminal elements operating in the area.

The protest was led by Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar along with Advocate Najib-ur-Rehman Mahesar, Advocate Dad Muhammad Magsi, president of Awami Tehreek Taluka Mehar, vice-president Gulzar Chandio, Advocate Shabbir Ahmed Khoso, Abdul Rehman Chandio, Muhammad Rahim Chandio and other party leaders.

The speakers reiterated that ensuring public safety was a constitutional obligation and urged the Sindh government to take urgent steps to improve the law and order situation across the province.
