Mohajir unity key to Karachi’s survival, says MQM-H leader

KARACHI: Senior leader of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) Sadiq Idris has said the survival of Karachi depends on the unity of the Mohajir nation, stressing that the creation of a new province in Sindh is a constitutional right and must be based on urban Sindh.

Sadiq Idris made the remarks while meeting various delegations of the Sindh Urban Graduate Forum from across the city at the residence of party chief Afaq Ahmed. He expressed serious concern over what he described as continued injustice and fascism against urban Sindh. He said the MQM had demanded a southern Sindh province from the very beginning.

MQM-H leader added that those now “playing the flute of a Karachi province” were not working in the public interest but were instead repaying favors to their political patrons. “We will not allow our nation and heritage to be divided for a third time,” Idris said. “A province will be formed, but not on anyone’s crutches. It will be achieved through our own strength. For this, Mohajir unity is the most urgent need of the time.”

Sadiq criticized ministers in the Sindh government for reacting angrily to constitutional demands for a new province, while remaining silent on anti-state slogans and calls for ‘Sindhudesh’. “When we speak within the constitution, we are labelled disloyal and separatist,” he said. “But those who raise anti-Pakistan slogans face no accountability. Courts even release them after declaring them innocent.”

MQM-H leader described the ‘Sindhudesh’ slogan as a continuation of the conspiracy that led to the fall of Dhaka. He said the Mohajir nation would defeat such designs through unity. “This country is the result of the sacrifices of our two million elders,” he said. “It cannot, and will not, be allowed to be undermined.”
