PESHAWAR: As part of its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is carrying out robust operations across the province to combat drug smuggling, sale, and abuse, alongside awareness and rehabilitation efforts aimed at safeguarding youth and reducing demand.

A major anti-drug awareness seminar was held at Fazle Haq College, Mardan, with Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Ilyas, participating as the chief guest. The seminar was attended by college Principal Madam Hafsa Ashiq, Excise and Taxation Officer Khalid Khan, Dr. Hidayatullah, Head of the Anti-Drug Committee, Aakif Nawaz Khan, Circle Officer Mardan, SHO Excise Police Station Imad Khan, faculty members, and a large number of students.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary Khalid Ilyas emphasized that drugs not only destroy individuals but also families, society, and the nation’s future. He urged the youth to remain engaged in positive activities such as education, sports, and research, stressing that awareness is the most effective weapon to reduce drug demand.

He noted that the provincial anti-narcotics strategy is multi-faceted, combining law enforcement with awareness, rehabilitation, and reform initiatives. Students were encouraged to take an active role in spreading anti-drug messages, and several were formally appointed as Excise Anti-Drug Ambassadors. These ambassadors will carry out awareness campaigns in colleges, schools, and public spaces, educating peers about the dangers of drug use.

In a symbolic gesture, Secretary Khalid Ilyas planted an olive sapling on the college premises, highlighting peace, health, and a brighter future. “Just as trees provide shade and fruit for generations to come, today’s awareness initiatives will protect future generations from the menace of drugs,” he said.

The seminar concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to fight narcotics and contribute to building a healthy, safe, and prosperous society in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
