SUKKUR: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the brutal killing of 4-year-old Ali Raza, whose body was discovered in a pond within Ranipur police limits three weeks ago.
The accused, identified as Muhammad Afzal Farooqi and Nazar Muhammad Chandio, were apprehended following an intensive investigation into the heinous crime.
During a joint press conference, DSP City Khairpur Asadullah Bhatti and SHO Ranipur Hashim stated that the accused had been smoking cannabis in a room where children, including the victim, were present. The situation escalated when Afzal Farooqi, allegedly under the influence, struck Ali Raza on the head with a stick over a trivial matter. The boy’s cries for help were silenced when the accused reportedly used a cloth to block his airway, resulting in his death. The body was then disposed of in a nearby pond.
Police initially registered a case against unknown individuals, but diligent investigative work led to the identification and arrest of the culprits. During interrogation, both accused confessed, citing a petty dispute as the motive for the crime.
The victim’s father, Manthar Ali Bhatti, expressed relief at the arrests and urged authorities to ensure that the accused face exemplary punishment.
The accused are set to be produced in court, and police have assured the public of their commitment to seeing justice served in this tragic case.
