KHYBER: A meeting of the Fata Loya Jirga cabinet was held in Shah Kas, Jamrud, under the chairmanship of tribal elder Bismillah Khan Qabaeeli, with members from all tribal districts, including the former Fata areas, in attendance.
The meeting discussed in detail the displacement caused by an alleged operation in the Tirah valley and the serious difficulties faced by affected residents. Participants, including Malik Bismillah, Malik Khan Marjan, Malik Abdul Razzaq Afridi, Malik Wilayat Shah, Malik Fazlur Rehman and general secretary Azam Jan Mehsud, strongly criticized the performance of the provincial and federal governments over the Tirah operation.
Speakers questioned the approval of Rs4bn, asking on what basis the funds were sanctioned if the provincial government claimed it was unaware of the operation. They said that if both the provincial and federal governments were denying responsibility, it must be clarified who was carrying out the operation and under whose orders people were forced to migrate during severe winter conditions. They demanded a transparent investigation into the matter.
Jirga members said the people of Tirah faced unbearable hardships due to displacement amid heavy snowfall. They said road closures and harsh weather conditions led to the deaths of several innocent children, while further fatalities occurred in accidents. Hundreds of people fell ill and many families remained stranded along the routes. The meeting demanded that an FIR be registered against the government over these deaths.
